BREAKING NEWS : Postecoglou’s decision to deploy £40M STAR at left-back may prove instrumental in securing the Dutch defender a starting role at the upcoming Euros

Ange Postecoglou’s decision to try Micky van de Ven as a left-back during the summer has benefited the defender greatly, as the Netherlands will now consider him in this role.

This according to Voetbal International, which writes that Ronald Koeman has been given a new option in that position thanks to Postecoglou’s tactical change at Tottenham.

The newspaper reports that Van de Ven could play in a new role for his country at Euro 2024 this summer due to his move to Spurs.

He enjoyed his first season at Tottenham after arriving in the summer and was recently named player of the year, and his speed and defensive skills have made him a perfect fit in the system that Postecoglou plays.

His versatility has also proved useful, with the Dutchman taking the left-back spot towards the end of the season when Destiny Udogie was forced off through injury.

He impressed there too, opening the door for the Netherlands, who have so far only given him 26 minutes of game time, mainly due to his strength at centre-back.

However, they are less well stocked at left-back and Van de Ven’s performances for Tottenham will help Koeman get him into his squad, especially if they continue to play with a four-back system.
