Everton’s former chief executive, Keith Wyness, has revealed that the club will replace Dominic Calvert-Lewin if he leaves this summer.
Wyness, who served as CEO at Goodison Park from 2004 to 2009 and now runs a football consultancy, believes that sales will be necessary to minimize the risk of further financial breaches.
With Newcastle United plotting a move for Calvert-Lewin, the striker’s future at Everton is uncertain. Calvert-Lewin, who has been with the club since 2016, is only under contract until June 2025 and made 32 starts in 38 appearances last season, scoring eight goals and providing three assists.
While Everton has backup strikers Beto and Youssef Chermiti, neither fully adapted to the Premier League this term.
Wyness believes that if Calvert-Lewin leaves, the club will need to bring in another striker to replace him. “It’s all about what Everton can do to minimize the risk of any future PSR breaches coming through,” Wyness said on the Inside Track podcast. “The financial situation will dictate the ins and outs.
Dyche will want to limit the exits to as few as possible. If Calvert-Lewin is to go this summer, I think another striker will be coming in to replace him.”
Everton finished 15th in the Premier League last season, despite being deducted eight points for breaches of Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR). Calvert-Lewin was the club’s top scorer with eight goals, followed by Abdoulaye Doucoure with seven goals.
