– Wales boss Rob Page has announced that Ethan Ampadu is set to be the new captain of the Wales team at the age of 23.

– Ampadu, who has been the stand-in skipper for Leeds United, will be leading the team in their friendly fixtures against Gibraltar and Slovakia this month.

– Page described Ampadu as “captain material” and praised his leadership qualities, saying that he has shown great potential at Leeds and is definitely one for the future.

– Ampadu has won 51 caps for Wales but has yet to captain the team. However, with Aaron Ramsey and Ben Davies out due to injury, Ampadu is next in line to lead the team.

– Page also praised Ampadu’s experience, saying that he has played in different cultures and leagues, including Germany, Italy, and the Premier League, which has made him the person and player he is today.

– Ampadu remains contracted to Leeds until the summer of 2027 and has made appearances in all 46 of Leeds’ league games this past season, as well as eight outings in the play-offs and cup competitions
