AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund are leading the chase to sign Everton defender Ben Godfrey this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Italian giants Milan have held a long-term interest in Godfrey, 26, after previously enquiring about his availability in the January transfer window.

Everton were reluctant to let the English centre-back leave the club at the time and he went on to feature heavily in the second half of the campaign in their successful fight against relegation.

Ben Godfrey could leave Everton this summer

Godfrey has been plagued by injuries since joining Everton from Norwich City in a £25million deal back in 2020.

The defender has only featured 28 times in all competitions over the past two seasons, having previously been viewed as a potential future leader of the Toffees’ backline.

The centre-back spent the first half of last season predominantly warming the bench, but after the turn of the year, Sean Dyche handed him an opportunity at right-back – a position he went on to feature in 11 times as the Blues fought off relegation.

After Godfrey was heavily linked with a move away in January, speculation is mounting again about his future at Goodison as he heads into the final year of his contract.

Milan and Dortmund are looking to land a deal for the Englishman as they look to persuade him a switch abroad would be the ideal move to kick-start his career.
