Everton’s quiet summer transfer window is about to come to an end as they close in on their first signing, Aston Villa’s young midfielder Tim Iroegbunam.

Despite financial constraints and the ongoing international tournaments, Sean Dyche and Kevin Thelwell have identified the 20-year-old as a top target and are in advanced talks to bring him to Goodison Park.

Iroegbunam, a highly-rated prospect, has already made 19 senior appearances for Aston Villa and has spent time on loan at Queens Park Rangers, impressing former Villa manager Steven Gerrard with his calmness, maturity, and professionalism. The young midfielder has also represented England at the U20 level and is seen as a promising talent for the future.

While the transfer fee is yet to be disclosed, it is expected to be a modest amount, considering Iroegbunam’s limited playing time under Unai Emery last season.

The move could be connected to Aston Villa’s interest in Amadou Onana, with both deals potentially being finalized after Belgium’s Euros campaign.

Iroegbunam’s signing would be a shrewd acquisition for Everton, providing a talented young player with ample opportunity to develop and break into the first team, where the competition is less fierce than at Aston Villa. This move would signal a positive start to Everton’s summer transfer activity, despite the challenges they face.
