Newcastle United want to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin from Everton this summer, but the deal is “complicated”, according to The Athletic.
Through an article on its website (June 22), the media reports that there is a desire for the transfer to take place and that talks have been ongoing for some time.
A deal is complicated by both clubs’ financial constraints ahead of the PSR, so a deal may be forced to wait until July, when the Magpies will have the opportunity to spend again as the new year begins in the PSR cycle .

It has been a long time since the Toffees were able to be in a dominant position in transfer negotiations, but they are in a good position here.
The striker is entering the final 12 months of his contract with the club but Everton want to keep him and have offered him a new contract [Liverpool Echo, May 31] and that means they will not be sellers good.
Newcastle also have plenty of money to spend after the Saudi takeover, but must wait for the new PSR cycle to begin to avoid potential breaches of their previous problems.
With PSR’s hole at Goodison Park essentially solved after agreeing to sell Lewis Dobbin to Aston Villa [Paul Joyce, June 20], it means they are in no rush and won’t need to cut their asking price soon.
It will be interesting to see how he develops and what comes of it, but a move should not be ruled out at this stage and Everton could reinvest the money in the rest of the squad.
