According to Mundo Deportivo (page 3), Manchester United have made an offer to sign Everton midfielder Amadou Onana this summer.

The Red Devils are on the hunt for a new defensive midfielder and have recently been linked with West Ham United's Edson Alvarez.

Alvarez has had an excellent debut season for the Hammers following his move from Ajax, but his hamstring injury last night could hamper United's plans. Meanwhile, Mundo Deportivo claim today that United have offered €55m (£46.5m) upfront with €5m (£4.2m) in add-ons to sign Onana.

Barcelona have also been linked with an interest, but the Catalan giants cannot afford to sign him unless he pays back the money for multiple departures.

Arsenal and Chelsea are also mentioned as admirers of the former Lille man, who manager Roberto Martinez described as a "really exciting" footballer. Onana would be a good signing for United Casemiro had a difficult second year with the Red Devils.

He suffered a number of injuries and struggled to find any form or consistency towards the end of last season The Brazilian was guilty of losing the ball an average of 12 times. He led more than twice a game and was regularly out of position.

United need an upgrade from Casemiro, who appears to be past his prime. Masturbation can be the solution. The Belgian won an impressive 66 per cent of his face-offs last season - 74 per cent of his aerial challenges. He collected 2.4 tackles per outing with more than five fumbles.

The 22-year-old dropped the ball an average of 6.8 times. He was also difficult to dribble (0.7 per game). Onana would be a good successor to Casemiro.

The big question is whether United made an offer or whether agents are running the story. Onana is the most valuable player for his agency BTFM who can see a good commission.
