French giants Lyon have now made a £10million bid for Everton’s 26-year-old defender Ben Godfrey, who is also a target for Serie A side Atalanta, according to Sky Sports News.
Interest in the England defender has increased over the past 24 hours, with the player himself hinting at his desire to move.
He prefers a move to Italy, although Atalanta’s initial bid of £8.46m does not match Everton’s valuation.
Lyon’s arrival on the scene now changes the whole complexion and the French club have also offered £10m for Godfrey.
However, he still fell short of the Toffees’ £15m valuation.
It now remains to be seen whether Lyon will return with another bid for the former England international, who will enter the final 12 months of his contract at Goodison Park next month.
Godfrey found his opportunities for Sean Dyche’s side limited last season, finishing with 15 Premier League appearances.
In his three years on Merseyside, he made 93 appearances for the club.
Selling Godfrey would be a PSR boost for Everton ahead of the June 30 deadline.
