Nottingham Forest have identified four players they must sell as the club look to embark on a fire sale of additional players.
So says Football Insider reporter Daniel Bowers in a conversation for Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast.
English clubs must show details of their accounts on Sunday 30 June to comply with the PSR decision, with Forest penalized with a points deduction last season.
This time, owner Evangelos Marinakis and the Forest hierarchy are doing their best to offload certain players in the squad to avoid further repercussions.
Football Insider revealed on June 28 that Joe Worrall, who has been with the club since his boyhood days since breaking into the first team in 2016, is among those the club are trying to replace, along with Emmanuel Dennis, Matt Turner and Lewis O’Brien.
Forest are believed to be demanding a fee in the region of £4million for local boy Worrall, 27, while it is uncertain what the price of the rest of their transfer-list talent will be.
Nottingham Forest in a race against time for fire sale
Bowers highlighted what failure to sell the quartet could mean for Nottingham Forest and what effect it could have on Marinakis at the club, as well as manager Nuno Espirito Santo.
If Forest fail to raise at least £20m by selling players in the next 48 hours, a point deduction is very possible.
Another possibility would be to sell a talismanic figure from the team, such as Morgan Gibbs-White, Murillo or Callum Hudson-Odoi.
Former England, Tottenham and Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson told Football Insider [28. June] exclusively said the club may even consider taking a bigger hit if the points deduction could be worth it when compared to what the team’s key players can do for their overall tally. Next season.
With the mini-deadline looming, Forest are likely to be in deep trouble if they can’t raise the cash in time.
