Former Everton boss Keith Wyness has insisted the imminent loss of Wilfried Ndidi is a “severe blow” to Leicester City and their survival hopes.
In a new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old, who worked as managing director at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy that advises elite clubs, called for the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). should be blamed for the Foxes losing the 27-year-old, allowing Everton to swoop in and sign him on a free transfer.
Football Insider revealed on Wednesday (June 26) that Everton have offered terms to Ndidi, who has announced he would like a move to Merseyside and the chance to work with their manager Sean Dyche.
The Nigeria international has rejected a new contract with Leicester, meaning he will leave the club as a free agent when his contract expires on June 30.
Ndidi played a key role in the Foxes’ title win last season, starting 26 of 32 league games.
Ndidi’s exit is a “huge blow” for Leicester, says Wyness
Wyness insisted the midfielder would be a “good signing” for Everton, but admitted a fondness for Leicester’s position.
He told Football Insider’s Insider Track podcast: “It’s a huge blow for Leicester.
“But unfortunately for them, the position they find themselves in means they have to play the good guys – at least this season.
“They are aware that they will have the Premier League above them in terms of looking into their books and accounts.
“I think Ndidi will end up at Everton, he would be a good signing.
“Leicester will be sad to see him go. He is an experienced Premier League player with real talent.
“It will be a loss. He is a player you want in a top team because he knows the level very well.
“The PSR here is so tough for the clubs that have been promoted. We’ve said that many times and it’s very difficult for the clubs that have to go through it now.
“It seems wrong to have to get rid of some of your best talent when clubs like Man United are a billion pounds in debt.”
