🚨JUST IN : Nottingham Forest defender has signed a four-year contract with Ligue 1 outfit

Nottingham Forest are strengthening their transfer front and now it looks like another player is set to leave the football club.

   It has been quiet in terms of inbound and outbound business at the City Ground, but things have started to pick up over the past week.

   Elliot Anderson signed from Newcastle for £35m, while Odysseas Vlachodimos went in the opposite direction.

   They have now claimed that other players are in the sights of other football clubs.

   It was claimed yesterday that Lewis O’Brien is attracting attention from Luton and Norwich, with Forest looking to sell him.

   There is also another player who looks set to be announced at a new club as Forest look to overhaul their current squad.

   Fabrizio Romano reports on the transfer of Moussa Niakhate

   Now Forest appear to be cashing in on Senegalese international Moussa Niakhate.

   The 28-year-old has agreed a four-year deal – according to Fabrizio Romano – with Lyon as Forest cut the fabric in line with their PSR cycle.

   Niakhate signed for Forest from Mainz in 2022 and Nuno Espirito Santo was against his departure this summer.

   However, Forest are trying to ensure they meet the financial requirements to avoid points deductions.

   To do that, Forest let Vlachodimos go and Niakhate will now follow suit.

   That will mean the club are likely to resist the temptation to cash in on Murillo, Morgan Gibbs-White and Callum Hudson-Odoi.

   Clubs will still be interested in these players, but finally Forest can now demand decent transfer fees for their best players.

   Niakhate has signed a four-year contract with the Ligue 1 side and will compete in European football next season.

   Forest must now focus on defensive reinforcements

   It’s not ideal that Niakhate was sold, but if he thinks Murillo can stay for another season, then we’re all for it.

   At 28, Niakhate is at the peak of his powers and could begin to decline as a player over the next few years.

   The left centre-back has been a useful player for Forest but has had a number of injury problems during his time at the club.

   However, Forest must now dive into the transfer market to target at least one new centre-back.

   Niakhate’s departure comes as a result of Felipe’s decision to retire, leaving red cards at centre-back.

   Murillo is joined by Willy Boly and Andrew Omobamidele at centre-back and Espirito Santo will surely want at least one more player in defence.
