Coventry City’s Pursuit of Joe Worrall Cools as Club Explores Alternative Options
Coventry City’s interest in Nottingham Forest defender Joe Worrall has reportedly waned, with the club shifting its focus to other targets.
Earlier, The Sun’s transfer specialist Alan Nixon revealed that Coventry City and Sheffield United had been granted permission to negotiate with the 27-year-old center-back, whom Forest is eager to sell.
However, Coventry City was seeking a loan deal, which may be a point of contention for Forest, who prefers a permanent sale valued at £4 million.
According to CoventryLive, the club has indeed spoken to Worrall, but wage demands have also become an issue. Mark Robins has already bolstered his defense by re-signing Luis Binks on a permanent deal, adding to the existing quartet of central defenders: Bobby Thomas, Joel Latibeaudiere, Liam Kitching, and Binks. This raises questions about whether Robins would want to add another center-back to the mix, especially if he maintains a back-four system.
While Robins has expressed the need to replace the experience and character of Kyle McFadzean, who departed for Blackburn Rovers mid-season, it remains unclear whether he would want five center-halves competing for two spots. As Coventry City explores alternative options, the pursuit of Joe Worrall appears to have cooled for the time being.
