Lyon have confirmed the transfer fee of Moussa Niakhate from Nottingham Forest.

Defender Niakhata has left the Reds after two years at the City Ground. He signed a four-year contract with Lyon.

In a statement, Forest said: “We wish Moussa all the best for the future and thank him for his contribution during his time at the club.”

Before his replacement was confirmed, Niakhate wrote an emotional farewell message to Forest fans.  He thanked the Reds fans, players and staff as well as owner Evangelos Marinakis and his son Miltos for a lot of “love and support”.

In a post on social media, Niakhate wrote: “Thank you for making me feel at home from day one. I always felt your love and support every time I stepped on the field, but the craziest thing is that I felt it more during my toughest moments, especially when I was injured. It was the most difficult moment of my career but everyone at Forest, from the staff to my teammates and fans, gave me something to smile about every day and I will never forget that.

“Ultimately, we have always achieved our goals thanks to the fight and determination of the players and staff who were present to bring this historic club back among the elite. Together we have experienced difficult moments but also extraordinary moments of joy at our famous City Ground and I am happy and proud, that we managed to keep our first league status at the sporting level.

“So thank you to all the fans, staff, doctors, security, everyone at the club. I’ll never forget you. And to my teammates, you’re all warriors… I love you all like my brothers.

“And finally, a big thank you to Mr. Marinakis and Miltos for your trust in me and much more than that. Respect and consideration are the most important thing for me, much more than football. And I testify that you have been much more than owning me, thank you.

“If I could change one thing about my history with you, I would change absolutely nothing. I will only keep wonderful memories of the time I spent here. But most of all, I am happy to leave feeling that you understood exactly who I am , you understood me and as a result I learned that Nottingham Forest is more than just a football club.”
