Everton are set to reject a second bid from Manchester United for Everton full-back Jarrad Branthwaite, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic.

Branthwaite is one of United’s main targets in the club’s efforts to rejuvenate their midfield department, along with Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt.

Last month, United tabled an offer worth £35m plus a further £8m in bonuses, but this was quickly rejected by the Toffees.

Everton are said to want £70m for the England international, who narrowly missed out on a place in Gareth Southgate’s final 26-man squad for Euro 2024.

Sean Dyche’s side believe Branthwaite belongs in the same class as other stars such as Harry Maguire, Wesley Fofana (Chelsea) and Josko Guardiol (Manchester City), all of whom have been sold for sums in excess of £75m in recent years.

A recent report covered by The Peoples Person stated that United have submitted a second and improved bid of £45m + £5m for Branthwaite. This information was also repeated by the reliable Fabrizio Romano.

Ornstein posted an update suggesting that Everton are prepared to reject this latest proposal and that it “has no chance of being accepted.”

The Athletic reporter also wrote: “Manchester United have made an improved offer of £45m plus £5m in add-ons for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite. The offer is well below the Goodison Park club’s valuation of the England international and is firmly expected to be rejected.” “

Another Everton News source claimed the Merseyside club had already rejected another bid.

It remains to be seen whether United will shake off this setback or whether they will go back to the drawing board and try again for a third time.

However, it has been repeatedly stated that Sir Jim Ratcliffe will not demand a ransom for any transfer target and if the player proves unavailable then United will surely move on.

Branthwaite is open to a move to Old Trafford and there is already an agreement on personal terms between his camp and the Red Devils.
