Florentino Luis is not closing the door on a potential summer move to Everton this summer, according to Jornal de Noticias.

The Portuguese newspaper said on its website (July 10) that the central midfielder’s future at Benfica is “uncertain” amid interest from the Toffees, Nottingham Forest and Leicester.

Everton already submitted a bid for the 24-year-old this summer which was rejected [Correio de Manha, May 31], but the player “continues to be monitored” in the hope of striking a deal with the Portuguese giants.

Everton are looking for a replacement for Amadou Onana

Amadou Onana was widely expected to leave Goodison Park this summer, but so far those links have been quiet.

The Belgium star shone at Euro 2024 despite his country’s relatively early exit from the tournament and is now enjoying a well-deserved rest. But at some point the interest should become more concrete.

While the club are willing to let him leave for the right price, he will still need to be replaced if that offer comes in, meaning the board should be on their toes looking for replacements.

Luis is a tall, agile midfielder whose best attribute is defense, which would make him fit well with the current midfield options.

Despite other interest in the Premier League player, the Toffees will need to make a quick decision if they are to complete the deal, but Luis could be the man the team are looking for in a midfield move.
