Nottingham Forest have been desperate to offload some players ahead of the recent PSR deadline that the entire Premier League must adhere to.
He was dropped by the Reds late in the day to meet demands which are expected to allow them to avoid a points deduction next season.
Moussa Niakhate was allowed to join Lyon for £27m at the end of last month – with Orel Mangala also making a permanent move to the Ligue 1 side.
Forest opened their pre-season campaign with a 3-0 win over Chesterfield on Saturday, after Nuno Espirito Santo was questioned about the Financial Fair Play situation.
Nuno Espirito Santo brings an exciting update to PSR
Speaking to Colin Fray after Saturday’s 3-0 win, Espirito Santo seemed to have little twinkle in his eye.
It is clear he is looking forward to working with his group from this season – rather than having to pick up the pieces of a poor start under Steve Cooper last term.
Fitness levels and match training will be on the agenda, but he was also asked about the state of PSR – and that sounds like good news.
He told Colin Fray in the post-match press conference: “The club has done well, we don’t have to worry about that problem anymore.”
Forest need to shift gears in the transfer market
So far so good for the newcomers at the City Ground.
Elliot Anderson joined for around £15m with a number of add-ons included in the deal for Newcastle.
Carlos Miguel, a 6ft 8in goalkeeper, has also signed from Corinthians and played against Chesterfield at the weekend.
Another player Eric da Silva Moreira has been added and it will be interesting to see how the youngster fares at Forest.
A change for players with a different profile is now an absolute must for Forest.
The club must learn from their erratic ways in the transfer market and with a third year in the Premier League on the horizon, things need to get sorted.
Espirito Santo likes to work with a smaller team and hopefully some work will be done before the campaign starts.
It is such a relief that points deduction is now out of the question and Forest must look better in the top flight next season.
