Earlier today we reported on reports in Italy that say Nikola Milenkovic is set to join Nottingham Forest and will soon fly to England for a medical at the club.
The financing of the deal was estimated at around 12 million euros plus bonuses, which is significantly less than what Fiorentina expected to receive on previous occasions. In recent years, Milenkovic has been linked with several Premier League clubs, West Ham being the most prominent.
For a while there were endless claims of interest from West Ham and it seemed like every time the Hammers tried La Viola were just looking for an extra few million and in the end they pushed their luck too far.
While the defender’s value was once 35 million euros at Transfermarkt, it has now fallen to 15 million euros.
Some believe that Fiorentina waited too long to sell and are therefore getting less from Nottingham Forest than they could have got from elsewhere not so long ago.
TMW quotes well-known Italian agent Vincenzo Morabito as saying: “Players have to be sold at the right time and maybe his time was when he was close to West Ham. Today, in my opinion, Fiorentina cannot expect big numbers. Paradoxically, if he leaves, Fiorentina will be forced to spend the same money or even more on the profile of his replacement. At this point, I would let him go and bring in a younger player.”
