Johnny Heitinga has joined Arne Slot’s coaching staff at Liverpool

   Former Holland and Everton centre-back Johnny Heitinga has returned to Merseyside, this time to the red side, as he has joined Arne Slott’s coaching staff as assistant manager at Liverpool.

   The 40-year-old was West Ham United’s first assistant manager last season, leaving after the departure of David Moyes.

   He also previously managed the youth and senior teams of Ajax, whose academy he graduated from before winning nine trophies with them during his playing days.    During his Premier League career, Heitinga played for Everton and Fulham.

   Heitinga will start work as soon as the Reds return to training for the 2024/25 pre-season.

   Liverpool will begin their 2024/25 season on August 17 against newly promoted Ipswich Town in the Premier League.

   Crossing the Merseyside Divide

   The last time a personality crossed the border of Merseyside for a coaching opportunity in recent history, it didn’t go well.    Of course, Liverpool fans would like to remember Rafa Benítez’s time at Everton, but at the same time hope that the same fate does not befall Heiting.

   Teaming up with Sloto, Heitinga has a lot of work to do as he tries to help his stronger man follow in the footsteps of one of the greatest managers in the history of the club’s famous legend Jürgen Klopp.
   It is an unenviable task, and we can only wish the entire coaching staff the best of luck.
