Napoli are ready to increase their bid for Brighton midfielder Billy Gilmour after having an £8m bid rejected.

The 23-year-old Scotland international, who has two years left on his contract, is wanted by Antonio Conte and further talks are expected this week with the Italians, who are confident of reaching an agreement.

Manager Conte worked with Gilmour at Chelsea, where his shot made a breakthrough.

The midfielder has impressed at Brighton so far, making 32 league appearances last season.

Conte is also keen to re-sign Romelu Lukaku after having success with the striker at Inter Milan.

The 31-year-old has a £38m buyout clause but Napoli want to offer around £25m and are awaiting the progress of talks with Paris St Germain over the sale of Victor Osimhen.

Conte has so far signed Alessandro Buongiorno from Torino, Rafa Marín from Real Madrid and Leonardo Spinazzola from Roma for a combined £40m.

Brighton, meanwhile, are close to signing another midfielder, 21-year-old Paraguay international Diego Gomez from Inter Miami for around £13.9m.
