Everton manager Sean Dyche has been praised by former boxer and celebrity fan Tony Bellew for the “amazing job” he did last season.

   Speaking to talkSPORT (July 22, 09:24), Toffees supporter Bellew said no other manager in the sport could have taken the team to the level of success Dyche managed at Goodison Park in 2023/24.

   Highlighting the 10-point deduction – later reduced to six before two more were added – for financial fair play offences, Bellew praised Dyche for keeping spirits high as the Blues survived relegation.

   Asked about the club’s prospects for the new campaign, Bellew said: “No manager in world football could have done the job Sean Dyche did last season.

   “People can say what they want, but (with) ten points taken away, the guys were out of their heads.

   “He galvanized them, got them fighting again, and despite everything, we turned that deficit around.

   “It was an amazing job, so I have full faith in the coach, full faith in the boys.”

   According to Bellew, it is good that Dyche has been able to “invigorate” the Toffees squad, as the club are hardly out of the woods when it comes to the problems they faced last season.

   While the sale of players such as Lewis Dobbin and Ben Godfrey ahead of the June 30 profit and sustainability deadline is likely to reduce the possibility of future points deductions, off-field issues remain complex.

   The collapse of Dan Friedkin’s takeover of the club has left fans feeling that the ownership situation is back to square one [The Esk, July 20], although there is short-term optimism that things are stable enough.

   However, doubts remain over where the money will come from to finance the necessary reinforcements in Dyche’s squad, although the club will be £50m better off with Amadou Onana’s imminent move to Aston Villa [Mundo Deportivo, July 22].

   Regardless of how his squad looks in August, Dyche will have the full support of Goodison Park behind him, with Bellew and others believing he could be the difference between survival and relegation next season.
