🚨EXCLUSIVE : ‘will be a great signing pundit backs Rangers to land fast and aggressive ace who is available now

Scott McKenna would be a great signing for Rangers this summer if there was an opportunity to bring him in, says Derek Ferguson.

The former Ibrox midfielder is a big fan of the Scotland international and the way he plays after watching him for many years and would love to see him join Philippe Clement’s side.

McKenna, 27, left Nottingham Forest this summer and the Light Blues were immediately linked with Motherwell’s Stephen O’Donnell when he became available [Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, June 10].

The Light Blues are looking for experienced signings now after acquiring a number of young talents and Ferguson is fully backing their pursuit of a free agent signing.

He exclusively told Ibrox News: “If we get the chance to get McKenna through the door, it would be easy for me.

“I’ve seen him over the years and obviously in Scotland.

“I like to have experience at the back. I like to have aggressive players at the back.

“He is not the best footballer in the world, but sometimes when he finds himself in a difficult situation, he has the right pace to get him out of it.

“Yes, he would be a fantastic signing if Rangers can pull it off.”

Philippe Clement could replace Connor Goldson at Rangers

Clement has already moved to centre-back this summer, but neither the one-year contract extension for Leon Balogun nor the signing of youngster Clinton Nsiala on a free transfer from AC Milan is likely to be an immediate game-changer.

Connor Goldson has been a key figure in the Rangers backline for a number of years, but his form has dipped sharply in recent term and he has been linked with moves to Al-Ettifaq [Daily Record, April 24] and Birmingham City [Scottish Sun, June 30].

If the Gers were to secure a move for the Englishman and replace him with McKenna, it could be a real boost, but he is unlikely to be around for long and may have to sort out exits first.
