Leeds United are approaching the point in the summer where Premier League loans may become more affordable.

   Every year this is a market that every club in the Championship tries to exploit and Leeds are certainly no different.

   In fact, Leeds took advantage of this already this summer after signing Joe Rothwell for the season with Bournemouth.    It would be a surprise if it was the last.

   Leeds brought in four loan players from Premier League sides last season, although it would be fair to say their success rate has been successful.

   Joe Rodon was arguably the best of them and was signed permanently, while Jaidon Anthony, Connor Roberts and especially Djed Spence struggled to make an impact.

   Chelsea have decided Leeds will be a target for Alfie Gilchrist

   Leeds have already been linked with a handful of Premier League youngsters this summer, but as is often the case, moves don’t start happening until later.

   Rodon, Spence and Anthony were all at this time in August last year and clubs are starting to make decisions as the preseason gets into full swing.

   One player touted as a potential target for Leeds is Chelsea defender Alfie Gilchrist, and according to reporter Nizaar Kinsella, he is now apart of the ‘loan group’ at Cobham after being left out of their squad for their upcoming pre-season.  tour.

   Leeds are among a host of Championship clubs who have made inquiries for Gilchrist, and interest will have to rise rather quickly if they are to pursue this.

   Blackburn Rovers and Preston North End were the other two Championship clubs who, along with Leeds, were name-checked earlier in the window.

   PNE and Sheffield United are now likely destinations for Gilchrist

   Despite interest from Leeds, “sources” at Chelsea suggested they were skeptical about sending Gilchrist on loan to Elland Road because it could be difficult for him to become a regular player.

   And those fears may have been realized this month, with Leeds signing Rodon and Jayden Bogle this month, who will both be first-choice in the positions Gilchrist plays.

   As such, Ben Jacobs has now reported that one of PNE or Sheffield United is where the “fantastic” Gilchrist is most likely to end up.

   The Blades are of course in the market for a new right-back following Bogle’s move to Leeds, while PNE on paper have a significantly poorer crop of defensive options than the Whites.

   Some depth behind Rodon is likely to be needed, although a Premier League club looking to loan the youngster out to play won’t find it.
