Everton have been extremely active in the transfer market this summer as they look to build on the 15th place finish in the Premier League that the club achieved last season.

   Sean Dyche’s side have been constantly plagued by injuries and off-field problems, which has seen them finish mid-table in England’s top flight.

   They were hit with a combined eight-point deduction for multiple breaches of PSR rules, but managed to finish 14 points ahead of the campaign-ending drop.

   They have already entered the transfer market this summer, signing Jesper Lindström, Iliman Ndiaye and Tim Iroegbunam, while signing Jack Harrison on loan from Leeds United.

   However, they had to sell midfielder Amadou Onana to Aston Villa for £50m to avoid another PSR penalty, leaving a huge hole in the middle of Dyche’s side.

   They may not stop there, having sold a number of other first-team members during the window, including one talent after a disappointing opening campaign at Goodison Park.

   Everton’s £25m signing could be leaving Goodison Park

   After joining the Toffees for £25million from Udinese last summer, Beto’s expectations were high that he would produce the goods to try and solve his goalscoring woes.

   But in a disappointing campaign for the Portuguese striker, he scored just three times in his 30 appearances, which included just nine starts – often used as a back-up under Dyche.

   Despite his poor form, he is attracting the attention of several Serie A sides after being told he could leave, with Italy’s Bologna interested in signing the 26-year-old as a replacement for Joshua Zirkzee, who recently joined Manchester United.

   The club would likely lose money on the £25m they forked out to sign him, but it could be the right move before his value drops further if he repeats his low numbers from 2023/24.

   A potential decision to sell Beta could be a good option given the other strikers Dyche has on Merseyside, with one of his strikers arguably better suited to his system and the Premier League.

   Why Calvert-Lewin is an upgrade to the Beto

   After years of injury problems, striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin recorded his highest haul since the 2020/21 season, having made 38 appearances in all competitions in the previous campaign.

   He ended up becoming the club’s top scorer in the Premier League, equaling Abdoulaye Doucoure’s seven goals, sparking interest from Newcastle United and Manchester United in the summer for his signature.

   Looking at his stats on FBref, it’s no surprise the interest and why Dyche decided to use the 27-year-old as his main centre-forward.

   In addition to recording more goals and assists, Calvert-Lewin also won more aerial battles while averaging a 10% higher goal accuracy rate – giving the Toffees a greater advantage in front of goal.

   Despite often being the keeper for Everton, he has also made several progressive moves and passes for Dyche’s side, which looks the perfect package for a centre-forward in the manager’s system.
   While his injury record will always be a concern, his form in 2023/24 is proof that when fully fit, Calvert-Lewin is a great option and one who can continue to thrive with consistent first-team minutes.


   On the other hand, Beto, who was criticized by journalist Paul Brown for looking “lost”, found it difficult to make an impact given the excellent form of Calvert-Lewin, who restricted him to a limited number of minutes from the reserves.  bench.
