Richard Keys has suggested that David Moyes could return as Everton manager because his “heart is at Goodison” amid increasing pressure on Sean Dyche.
The BeIN Sports host wrote on his blog on August 26 that the current Toffees boss deserves some of the blame for the current mess after starting the season with two heavy defeats against Brighton and Tottenham, but puts Farhad Moshiri’s explosives as the main culprit. .
But he still hinted at a managerial change that would bring back the former boss, who is now available after leaving West Ham in the summer.
Keys wrote: “Do we blame Dyche? Yes – a bit. But it’s not really his fault either. He’s doing his best. The bottom line is it’s a [expletive] performance at Goodison. It’s obviously Moshiri’s fault.”
He later added: “David Moyes? I wonder. I love the great Dychey – but David Moyes? I don’t know. But I do know this – his heart is at Goodison. It always has been.”
Farhad Moshiri is to blame for Everton’s defeat against Tottenham
There’s no getting away from the fact that Everton’s opening two Premier League results of the season have been dismal, taking away any optimism built up during a reasonable transfer window that saw calls for his departure [talkSPORT, August 22].
If things don’t improve, everyone involved will have nowhere to hide, but it’s easy to overdo it at this stage of the season.
Dyche can rightly point to the fact that he is already dealing with a major injury crisis, which is a big difference for any manager, and the end of the transfer window creates its own uncertainty.
And despite his mistakes, he also proved he can turn things around after overcoming a slow start to last season and a couple of points deductions to achieve a finish that would otherwise be good enough for mid-table.
It is certainly true that some of his team selections, tactics and substitutions may be questionable.
But in light of the chaos in which he operates due to Moshiri’s repeated failed attempts to sell the club, getting rid of him would be an obvious risk if the majority owner wanted to make a change at all.
Meanwhile, there is a reason why Moyes is no longer at West Ham, and some Hammers fans might suggest that most of the criticism leveled at Dyche could also be directed at the Scot.
He is probably the only Premier League manager who can realistically enter this phase and perhaps has more credit in the bank with the fans than Dyche, even allowing for his departure to Manchester United, but he doesn’t look like he’s improved much. .
