Sunderland could be very active in the final days of the summer transfer window.
There is a possibility of both departures and arrivals at the Stadium of Light over the next few days.
The summer transfer window closes on August 30 and sporting director Kristjaan Speakman looks set to put an end to Sunderland.
Despite signing Wilson Isidor on loan from Zenit last week, Sunderland have made a £5m bid for Leicester City’s Tom Cannon.
There are also ongoing links to Alexander Mendy; Mendy has sent Sunderland one last plea after a frustrating summer for the Caen striker.
Payouts now look more possible with clubs interested in Pierre Ekwaha and potential loan spells running out.
Luis Hemir and Joe Anderson are among those who could go on loan, while Reading are interested in Jewison Bennett on loan.
We could also see Speakman and the Sunderland owners moving around the dead wood in the first team.
Sunderland ready to relieve the central trio after the start of the new season
Regis Le Bris has impressed so far as he has scored the most points in the championship but is yet to receive them.
And while some players quickly found out whether or not they were in Le Bri’s plans, three seemingly weren’t.
The Sunderland Echo reports that French trio Timothee Pembele, Adil Aouchiche and Abdoullah Ba are among those Sunderland are ready to offload in the final days of the summer window.
Earlier this summer, Le Bris said Pembele could go out on loan, while more recent reports suggest Aouchiche is unhappy at Sunderland.
Ba is new, but still unsurprising; not yet in the Championship this season.
A tough Sunderland marks the start of a new era
Speakman already had his critics. But he has also received plenty of plaudits and this newfound willingness to continue with players who have been given chances but failed to impress is to be commended.
It would have been easy for Speakman to give these players he exploited more and more opportunities. But moving them allows the player to explore new opportunities while saving Sunderland some money in the process.
Le Bris will be wary of staying in the first team if more players leave, especially in midfield, with Ekwah, Aouchiche and Ba all set to leave.
An injury or two could really dent Sunderland’s hopes of early promotion under Le Bris.
