Leeds United are interested in a deadline day swoop for Ajax after fending off their late competition for Manor Solomon.

The Whites confirmed Solomon’s season-long arrival on Tuesday night after days of his contract being up in the air.

Solomon actually traveled to Leeds for a medical on Saturday, but was forced to wait a few days before it became official as the two clubs completed a deal.

Leeds were also forced to fend off Ajax’s delayed interest in the 25-year-old winger, which should show just how important a shot he is at this level.

Solomon revealed that it was the chance to play in front of Leeds fans that decided him, despite the offer of top-flight football elsewhere.

Leeds eye move for Ajax playmaker Owen Wijndal

But Solomon is not a player Leeds want to take from Ajax, but a player already at the club.

Leeds are in the market for another full-back and have been linked with Bournemouth’s Max Aarons, although the left-back would likely provide better balance.

According to AD.NL, Leeds are among the clubs interested in Ajax left-back Owen Wijndal, with Werder Bremen and Galatasaray also interested.

Ajax paid AZ Alkmaar £8.4m to sign Wijndal as early as the summer of 2022 but have apparently fallen out of favour.

Wijndal is now part of the ‘bannees’ in Amsterdam and Ajax believe they can offer a multi-million fee if they sell him this summer.

Who is Leeds target Owen Wijndal?

As mentioned above, Wijndal took over from Ajax and spent last season on loan in Belgium with Royal Antwerp.

At 24, he still has plenty of room to develop, but he was extremely highly rated as a junior, racking up 11 caps for the high-flying Dutch side, though the latter came back at Euro 2020.

Before joining Ajax, Wijndal had extremely impressive stats at AZ, with four goals and 27 assists in 143 games, very impressive numbers for a left-back.

He contributed six assists in 32 games for Ajax, but it seems they want to get rid of him before the deadline.
