Newcastle United have been trying to sign Guehi for the past three weeks, only for Palace to reject multiple bids. It is understood that negotiations are now at an impasse – the asking price is £70m – and the situation has been complicated by a knee injury to defender Chadi Riad.
The 24-year-old has not and is unlikely to force a move, while the Eagles have shown they are unwilling to lower their demands. For these reasons, a potential move to St James’ Park is in serious doubt.
However, Deeney believes Guehi will make a move before 11pm this evening. However, he would not commit to Newcastle or any other club with Liverpool long linked with the England international.
“I think he’s done exceptionally well,” he told talkSPORT. “Every young player should watch him, how he behaves. How do you get out? It’s easier to leave than to stay. I can tell you that, he throws tantrums, kicks around, comes late, just nuances.
“With him and I have some insight, I still think he’s going to move.”
To Newcastle? Deeney replied, “I just think he’s going to move tomorrow.” How about another club? He said, “I think he’s moving tomorrow, that’s what I heard.”
Guehi has started all three of the Eagles’ games so far this campaign, captaining his side against Brentford and West Ham United in the Premier League and against Norwich City in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.
