Newcastle United fans are furious with controversial TV presenter Richard Keys after he claimed the club will “never” join the Premier League elite.
Keys discussed Newcastle’s future with other broadcasters when he claimed the Magpies would not be able to reach the top level of football.
The North East giants have started the new campaign unbeaten and sit in fifth place as the division heads into the international break.
Newcastle beat Tottenham 2-1 in their last game on Sunday (1 September) thanks to goals from Harvey Barnes and Alexander Isak.
The Magpies have the richest owners in the Premier League with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund giving the club a lot of financial muscle.
But PSR and financial fair play prevented Newcastle from having the spending power they would have liked.
Newcastle United fans claim Richard Keys has an “agenda” against the club
The Magpies finished seventh last season, missing out on a Champions League spot by eight points.
However, Newcastle finished above one of the classic “elite clubs” in Man United.
Newcastle fans did not take Key’s comments lightly and were quick to point out that PSR and FFP rules restrict them as a club.
