Leeds United looked to sign Rolland Sallai from SC Freiburg in the summer transfer window, but their attempts failed to lead to a move for the Hungarian to Elland Road.
It now appears that Leeds’ failure to sign Sallai could be a burden for Freiburg, who would much rather gain from his sale than him being part of their squad in 2024/25. Sport BILD reports today that the 27-year-old had a market value of 15 million euros in the summer and that his sale would be “important” for the balance sheet of the German club.
This is because his current side contract expires in the summer of 2025 and this summer was Freiburg’s biggest opportunity to sell the player for a good fee. It was Sallai himself who did not want to move to Leeds and turned down the opportunity, despite Freiburg’s attempts to sell him.
He has made a few appearances in the Bundesliga this season but has only come off the bench so far and it remains to be seen whether or not he will become a regular starter for the club.
