Maximilian Wöber spent much of the summer window being linked with a move away from Leeds United. Borrussia Mönchengladbach were interested in taking the defender back to Germany, having had him on loan last season.
But as the Bundesliga club repeatedly told German media, they believed Leeds United simply asked for too much money, making the transfer impossible.
There was also interest from other clubs, but the attitude was always the same, the asking price of the Whites was higher than anyone was willing to pay.
Wöber has played just over an hour of football so far this season, in the EFL Cup against Middlesbrough. He didn’t have a single minute in the championship for Daniel Farke.
However, he insists he is happy where he is, doubts the idea he ever wanted to leave and wants to fight for a place in Farke’s Leeds United plans.
The 26-year-old even said he understood Farke not selecting him given that those ahead of him are doing well at the moment.
Sky Sports Austria quoted Wöber as saying: “We are three centre-backs who are at a very similar level. If we stay successful and nothing happens, I wouldn’t change much as a coach. So I have to step back and wait for an opportunity.
“I am at Leeds, it suits me perfectly. I never said that I absolutely wanted to leave. I accepted this challenge, but I know that it will not be easy to return to the same position as before. The opportunity to play again in the Premier League is great, because on paper we have the best team and a wide lineup. Our goal is obviously promotion.”
