Jesurun Rak-Sakyi has spoken about his decision to turn down Leeds United and move to Sheffield United this summer. A number of Championship clubs, including the Whites, have expressed an interest in taking the Crystal Palace winger on loan.
But Rak-Sakyi has opted for a season-long loan at Bramall Lane, citing the Blades’ ambition to regain promotion to the Premier League at the first attempt as a big factor. Asked about Leeds’ interest in his services, Rak-Sakyi said: “My agent informed me of their interest and I knew it was a big club.
“But the manager here (Chris Wilder) spoke to me and I was really impressed with what he said and the plans he had for me. That’s why I decided to come here.”
The 21-year-old made his debut for Sheffield United against Watford before the international break, helping Wilder’s side to a 1-0 win. “The big challenge is to go somewhere that is ambitious, rather than mid-table or fighting for survival,” said Rak-Sakyi.
“But I wanted to go to an ambitious club because I’m ambitious myself. So I think it was a good choice. It’s hard to move away [from his native London], but now I’m growing up and you’re not always going to be at home. So it’s about adapting the situation you’re in and make the most of it.”
Rak-Sakyi, a quick and direct player, is looking to make a big impact at Sheffield United. He said: “I’m the type of player who wants to connect with the fans and make them happy watching football. I just want to do that and help the team. I’m really ambitious, it’s a big club. We know the goals and I know what we’re trying to do and I’m just trying to help the club achieve this. It’s a welcoming group, and they’ve helped me fit in. And I’m only going to grow.”
