Max Wober’s future at Leeds United is under serious doubt. Reports in Turkey claim that Galatasaray are interested in signing the Austrian international.
Wober has struggled to break into Daniel Farke’s first-team plans since returning from his loan spell at Borussia Mönchengladbach after the 2023/24 season. His only appearance came in their Carabao Cup defeat to Middlesbrough last month. Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk appear to be Farke’s first choice centre-backs.
Turkish newspaper Takvim state that Galatasaray want to secure Wober on an initial loan with an option to buy him out permanently. The Turkish transfer window closes on Friday.
United risk leaving the defense if Wober is given the green light to leave the Championship. Wober was repeatedly linked with a move away from Elland Road during the summer but stayed.
When asked about his lack of playing time at United in a recent interview with Sky Sports Austria, Wober said: “We are three centre-backs who are at a very similar level. If we stay successful and nothing happens, I wouldn’t change that much as a coach.
“So I have to step back and wait for an opportunity. I’m at Leeds, it suits me perfectly. I never said I absolutely wanted to leave.
“I accepted this challenge, but I know that it will not be easy to return to the same place as before. The chances of me playing in the Premier League again are huge, because on paper we have the best team and our broad goal is definitely promotion.”
