Everton have lost their first three Premier League games of the 2024-25 season and are currently bottom of the table as a result.
The Toffees have scored twice and conceded ten times and some are already predicting relegation, especially after finishing 15th last term, 17th in 2022-23 and 16th in 2021-22.
Still, Jamie Carragher is confident manager Sean Dyche can steer Everton to safety for a third consecutive season, keeping the Goodison Park club up despite another poor start to the season.
“The club were 19th in the Premier League when he took over in January 2023 but turned around what looked like a hopeless situation in the last game to secure top-flight status,” Carragher wrote in the Telegraph.
“The predictions of doom were even greater when Everton picked up two Premier League points last season. Nobody can judge the last 20 months at Everton and nobody can judge the last 20 months at Everton and argue against the fact that Dyche has performed admirably and shone in a situation where many others would wither.
“Despite another dreadful start to this campaign, with many expecting the losing streak to continue at Aston Villa this weekend, there is no way Everton will be relegated under Dyche. He has proven his ability to navigate teams through the 38-game campaign, achieving they get the most out of their squad, often allowing them to punch above their weight. At least three Premier League teams are worse than Everton.”
Not many Everton fans will be as confident as Carragher about their chances of survival under Dyche this term, especially after watching Bournemouth come from 2-0 down from the 87th minute to win 3-2 at Goodison Park.
However, the former Burnley manager has proven his mettle when it comes to relegation battles over the years and has what it takes to guide the Blues to safety once again.
Whether he stays around for long remains to be seen, as John Textor could soon complete a proposed takeover.
The American businessman is preparing for life without Dyche in the boot and is reportedly eyeing Palmeiras manager Abel Ferreira or his AC Milan counterpart Paul Fonseca as the next Everton boss.
