Ange Postecoglou may have to consider offloading Tottenham defender Cristiano Romero.

The Argentine is undoubtedly one of Spurs’ most important players.

But after his recent performances, Postecoglou may have to do something he probably never thought he would do – boo a World Cup winner.

He was arguably responsible for Leicester’s 1-1 draw at the King Power Stadium (August 19) and was also not at his best in the 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United at St James’ Park (September 1).

And on a day that mattered more than most, in the north London derby, Romero’s defensive frailties were once again exposed when Gabriel scored the winner for Arsenal at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (September 15).

When Spurs host Brentford (September 21), Postecoglou may do well to take Romero out of the spotlight.

It wasn’t just the frailty shown by Romero when Gabriel beat him in Arsenal’s first game, his entire performance was far from ideal.

According to Sofascore, while Romero cleared the ball twice and intercepted the ball twice, he was also dribbled past once and produced just one accurate long ball from three attempts.

He also drew a foul and won just three of five ground games.

He looked positive on the ball, completing 96 percent of his passes with one of those keys.    However, he hasn’t been at his defensive best this season and Spurs are suffering as a result.
