Ange Postecoglou was unable to call up Yves Bissoum in his confirmed Spurs squad to take on Arsenal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday (September 15).
Tottenham have made a slow start to their 2024/25 Premier League campaign.
Before the international break, they were beaten 2-1 by Newcastle United at St James’ Park (September 1), leaving them with four points after three games played.
That’s why this north London derby feels more important than ever as Postecoglou’s side look to kick-start their season.
Fans will be desperate to see their team stop Arsenal from making it three in a row at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. So the inclusion of Micky van de Ven and Dominic Solanke will be a big boost.
But fans would have noticed that Bissoum was nowhere to be found when Spurs confirmed their starting line-up via Club X’s official account (September 15).
Yves Bissoum does not feature for Tottenham against Arsenal
Postecoglou always seems to take one step forward and two steps back when it comes to injuries.
While the return of Solanke and van de Ven will be much to cheer about, Bissouma now appears to have picked up an injury just as he was beginning to find some form.
The 28-year-old has scored three goals in his last four games for club and country.
During the international break, he was on fire for Mali, scoring two goals in two matches. One of those strikes proved crucial as Mali beat Eswatini 1-0 in a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Tuesday (10 September).
In addition to his goal in this match, Bissouma completed 95 percent of his passes, including five key ones, and succeeded in five of his eight attempts to lead (Sofascore).
He also looked brilliant in his last appearance for Spurs, despite the defeat against Newcastle. As well as completing 92 per cent of his passes, with two of those crucial, he also completed four dribbles and won six ground tackles against the Magpies.
So it will be a huge blow for Postecoglou and Spurs to be without the midfielder against the Gunners and they will be hoping to get him back sooner rather than later.
