REPORT :”when he came on”Alan Shearer says Liverpool star ‘didn’t add anything’ in 1-0 loss vs Nottingham Forest

Liverpool suffered an early blow to their Premier League title hopes with a shock 1-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest.

Arne Slot now knows what the job is at Liverpool after the defeat, where Callum Hudson-Odoi scored the only goal at Anfield.

Slot was disappointed with the result, which leaves Liverpool three points behind Manchester City in the league table.

With a triple change on the hour, the Dutchman did everything to change the tempo of the game at Anfield.

But the arrival of Darwin Nunez, Conor Bradley and Cody Gakpo changed nothing, Kostas Tsimikas and Curtis Jones were in the same situation after the 75th-minute opener.

The decisions certainly backfired, with Nunez and Bradley playing the villains as Forest overcame the outcome in the 72nd minute.

Nunez was easily dispossessed by centre-back Nikola Milenkovic just outside the Forest penalty area, and Bradley then allowed Hudson-Odoi to hit a long-range shot all too easily.

Alan Shearer was particularly unimpressed with Liverpool’s goalscorers, saying of today’s game: “It’s actually a Forest goal. Liverpool in attack, Milenkovic was too strong for Nunez when he came on, he didn’t add anything to the game.”

Darwin Nunez continues to ruin Liverpool’s season

Nunez may have thought he would have been able to find a starting role at Anfield, having been suspended for Uruguay during the last international break.

But Slot decided to keep the striker on the bench for an hour as his 30-minute stint is now the longest appearance in a single game this season.

Nunez was left on the bench for the opening game against Ipswich before starting 18 minutes and 14 minutes against Brentford and Man United respectively.

It’s been a very frustrating campaign so far for the striker, with Nunez certainly not improving his chances of starting with his failures against Forest.

However, Slot is confident he will rotate his attack when the Reds host AC Milan in the Champions League on Tuesday, with Nunez likely to be tested from the start.
