‘So calm’: Troy Deeney thinks Brighton could end up selling ‘wonderful’ player to Liverpool next season

Brighton & Hove Albion have a strong reputation as one of the best producers of talent in the Premier League and Liverpool know this better than anyone.

The Reds splashed out £35million to sign Alexis Mac Allister from the Seagulls last summer, while Brighton also sold Moises Caicedo, Marco Cucurello and Ben White to other Premier League clubs for huge fees.

With Brighton being the second biggest spenders of any team in Europe this summer, there is a real possibility that the Amex Stadium side may need to offload another star player or two if they are to fund their impressive squad overhaul this term.

And Troy Deeney now believes Liverpool could sign one of the Brighton stars next year.

Liverpool are set to make a move for Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke

Writing for BBC Sport, the former Watford captain claimed that a club like Liverpool could land Jan Paul van Hecke, who has been a sensation for Brighton this season under new manager Fabian Hurzeler.

The 24-year-old defender made his Netherlands debut with Van Hecke this month and has quickly become a key player for Brighton’s new side, who sit sixth in the Premier League with a clean sheet after this weekend.

With Liverpool in the market for a potential replacement for Virgil van Dijk, Van Hecke would make sense given his youth and Premier League experience, with the defender now playing alongside the Anfield captain for the Netherlands.

And Deeney believes Van Hecke could end up at Liverpool, with the pundit writing: “He’s wonderful on the ball, he looks so calm and collected. I think he’ll be the one they sell to someone like Liverpool next year  .He’s a natural left-footer and never looks nervous.”

Van Hecke could secure a big move to the Premier League in 2025

Van Hecke has always shown promising signs at Brighton, but this season the 24-year-old Netherlands international’s talents have finally come to the fore for Premier League followers.

And as he is at Brighton, there is a real chance Van Hecke could secure a big move to a top Premier League side in 2025, be it Liverpool or an equivalent league rival.

A physical specimen with exceptional ability on the ball, Van Hecke has all the tools to become the best defender in the Premier League and Liverpool could be the ones to call the centre-back home depending on what happens with Van Dijk  .
