‘As if fallen from the sky’ – player signing seen as gift from god, Everton and Sunderland old-boy welcomed

Everton and Sunderland favorite Bryan Oviedo has been accepted into new club LD Alajuelense as a godsend.

   La Nacion reports on the 34-year-old’s move today and how it has been welcomed with open arms by everyone associated with the Costa Rican side.

   Oviedo is said to be returning to the Costa Rican league “like he fell from the sky”, having signed a two-tournament deal with Liga Deportivo Alajuelense.

   He will be linked with Costa Rica until 2025 as a last-minute replacement for Rónaldo Matarrito, who had an appendix operation and needed a last-minute replacement.

   When they realized that the former Everton and Sunderland defender was available and had not signed a contract with San Carlos, they quickly decided to sign him themselves.

   It’s not the first time the club have focused on Oviedo, but this time the interest was mutual, as they can offer him the opportunity to play in the Central American Concacaf Cup and potentially the Concachampions.

   It’s a one-size-fits-all transfer that was made very often because it was available, and Alajuelense looked at Oviedo as if he had “fallen from the sky”.

   The move is the first homecoming for Oviedo, who he left in 2010 to go on to stints with FC Copenhagen, Nordsjaelland, Everton, Sunderland and then Salt Lake.

   Now he’s back home and is being treated like a godsend sent at just the right time to cover what has become a big problem.
