Some worrying comments have just been made about West Ham United striker Niclas Fullkrug.
West Ham hitman Niclas Fullkrug suffered a serious injury while away on international duty with Germany last week.
The injury really came at a terrible time for Fullkrug and Julen Lopetegui, after the Spaniard had just got the solution to the German’s woes by scoring for his country in a 5-0 win against Hungary.
Fullkrug would certainly start for the Hammers away to Fulham on Saturday but for his Achilles injury.
His start to life with West Ham has been very difficult and now he is under real pressure to succeed with us.
Many fans and pundits have questioned the Hammers’ decision to pay more than £25 million for the striker, who turns 32 in February, and sign him to a four-year deal!
At the moment, it seems that these questions were more than justified …
Niclas Fullkrug’s revelation will worry West Ham fans
The German tipped to leave Borussia Dortmund in the summer when they signed Serhou Guirassy.
Fullkrug has claimed that he will no longer be the first striker, so the opportunity to join the Hammers has become very attractive to him.
It was also claimed that the 31-year-old was “annoyed” by Dortmund’s decision to sign Guirassy from Stuttgart (BVB Buzz).
And it seems Fullkrug’s lack of desire to compete with Guirassy for playing time ultimately led to his move to the London Stadium.
Speaking to Sport Bild, Borussia Dortmund director of football Sebastien Kehl was clearly offended by Fullkrug’s recent comments about his departure from Signal Iduna Park.
Kehl said: “Of course I spoke to Fülle before the agreement with Guirassy and also told him that we are going to do something in this position and, like the coach, showed him the perspective.”
“Then he began to think. He would find himself in a competitive situation that he did not want to face himself.”
He will get a slightly longer contract (from West Ham) and maybe a slightly better prospect in one or two places. He always behaved properly and I think we did too. Nothing sticks.”
The second paragraph worries me a lot.
Niclas Fullkrug is a big concern for West Ham
If he’s not the type of striker who likes to compete for his place, then they could be in serious trouble this season.
Without competition, there is absolutely no hunger for success.
I have to say that the signing of Niclas Fullkrug to West Ham is getting worse every week.
The Hammers could sign Aston Villa’s electric Jhon Duran this summer if the owners offer just £5m more.
The Colombian’s absence now looks like a total disaster. Apparently he’s the right one.
I hope Fullkrug will come in handy for West Ham this season, but I’m very worried about him, I must say.
Of course, it’s still very early days, but considering he got a four-year contract, I think we might have made a big mistake.
Let’s hope I’m wrong!
