Needs time’ – Director reveals why signing from Everton isn’t featuring for new club, praises qualities

Ben Godfrey’s departure to Atalanta has helped Everton financially, with the Toffees pocketing some cash to help with ongoing financial problems.

While the move was swift in the summer, the same cannot be said for Godfrey’s progress at his new club after leaving Everton.

He hasn’t really settled down on the pitch yet, and there were earlier rumors of an early departure from Atalanta.    It has been hinted that a January move away from Atalanta is possible.

It now appears that Atalanta may be willing to show some patience with the defender.    The club’s sporting director Tony D’Amico spoke to Gazzetta dello Sport about the player’s situation.

He said, as reported by TuttoAtalanta: “Godfrey needs time to understand the rhythm of Italian football, but his qualities are undeniable.”

The Englishman has played just once in Serie A this season, in the opening game of the campaign.

He hasn’t featured since and given how demanding Gian Piero Gasperini’s system can be, it might be wise to give the defender some time.

It is definitely a change from the football he played under Sean Dyche at Everton.
