Daniel Farke could be in line for a bit of a defensive crisis on Saturday afternoon when Leeds United take on Cardiff City in Wales, with two centre-backs questionable.
Max Wober continues his journey back to fitness after Austrian media reported that Wober suffered “knee problems” while on international duty. Farke said Joe Rodon missed a few sessions this week.
The Wales star has returned to training but it is unclear whether he will be cleared to start when Leeds face Cardiff on Saturday. However, if Rodon and Wober are unavailable, Leeds could be missing out.
That could mean Farke will have to turn to the Leeds academy to potentially provide some depth in the heart of defence, and he is addressing that in training this week by calling up the 20-year-old.
Farke calls up Jeremiah Mullen for Leeds first team training
Mullen has been in and around the first team several times, playing against Manchester United in Oslo in Farke’s first pre-season game since taking over as Leeds manager in 2023.
Mullen has just helped the Scotland Under-21s beat Malta 5-0 in the last international break after being on the end of Mateo Joseph’s winner against Spain, and is a regular in Leeds’ Under-21s.
He was also on the senior bench three times, once under Michael Skubala and twice with interim manager Sam Allardyce. In the latest training video on LUTV, Mullen is clearly seen with some pretty awesome hair.
Michael Skubala, a big fan of Mullen’s, called him “brilliant”
With Farke ready to include some youngsters in his pre-season training camp in Germany, it was a bit of a surprise that Mullen did not join Harry Gray, Sam Chambers and Luca Thomas on the trip.
James Debayo was also involved, but it appears Farke called Mullen into training ahead of the trip to Cardiff. A player Michael Skubala described as “brilliant” in 2023 after a 21-run loss against Chelsea.
There are some good players coming in, bought for a lot of money, and I thought Jez (Mullen) and James Debayo were brilliant in the back line. They took care of everything,” YEP quoted Skubala as saying.
