Manchester United will head into Saturday’s Premier League clash against Crystal Palace in fine form after recording back-to-back wins in which they have scored a combined 10 goals.
Things looked tough for Erik ten Hag heading into the international break as the team lost three of their four games in all competitions.
INEOS gave the Dutchman four games to spark a turnaround or risk the sack and his side certainly responded with a 3-0 win against Southampton before hammering Barnsley 7-0 in League One in the Carabao Cup.
It’s the perfect time for the Red Devils to take on the Eagles as they seek revenge for their 0-4 capitulation towards the end of the previous campaign.
Revenge time for EtH
The Selhurst Park side lost Michael Olise to Bayern Munich and have not started the new season in the way they would have liked, but have yet to win.
In further bad news, the London side will be without four star players, including key midfielder Cheick Doucouré and on-loan defender Trevoh Chalobah, who are United targets in the summer.
Of the Chelsea player, manager Oliver Glasner said: “He’s making progress but he’s not available tomorrow. We expect him to be back in the team next week.
“The same with [Matheus] França, his recovery was faster than expected. He trained with the team yesterday and today. It’s still a bit too early [to play]; he will train next week, but he will be back.
“Only [missing] Chadi Riad and, unfortunately, Cheick Doucouré. He has a [injury] to the tendon in his toe. We will miss him for several weeks. The tendon needs to heal, so it is a bit of a bad situation for him, but he will be back in a few weeks .
“Of course [Doucouré] was sad but he was in a lot of pain during and after the [Leicester] game and now we and he are happy that it’s not that serious because it was so painful that there was concern that he would go for serious injury.
Big mistake due to injury
“It’s not – it’s been several weeks. He’s been out for eight months, so a couple of weeks is a short period. He’s already working on his return.”
Palace have been susceptible to counter-attacks and Doucouré’s absence could be a major blow. However, young midfield ace Adam Wharton has been ruled fit after missing the club’s midweek cup tie.
United target Eberechi Eze is also expected to feature and the 20-time Premier League champions must be the way to go for the England international.
In goal for the Eagles will be a familiar face in former United star Dean Henderson, while another transfer target Marc Guehi will round out the backline.
