Fans can’t quite understand what Lisandro Martinez did during Manchester United’s game against Crystal Palace.
Erik ten Haga’s Red Devils arrived at Selhurst Park on Saturday night to face Palace looking to make it two Premier League wins in a row.
In the first half, United had more possession and created many chances, but they failed to clear Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson, who was once on United’s books.
In the second half, United defender Martinez left everyone bewildered when he appeared to dive needlessly into a challenge on the edge of the Palace box.
As a result, referee David Coote showed the Argentinian a yellow card.
One fan reacted on social media: “Lisandro Martinez shouldn’t get away with this kind of attack, the intention alone is red card worthy.”
Another tweeted: “United fan but to be honest it was a foul for a red card. How Lisandro Martinez is on the pitch despite having VAR is unbelievable to anyone.”
A third fan added: “Is Lisandro Martínez trying to set a Premier League record for most challenges that should have been a red card but somehow weren’t?”
Someone else wrote: “Sorry but if a player dives like Lisandro Martinez just did it should be an automatic red card whether it connects and breaks the player’s leg or not.”
Peti commented: “It should have been a red card for Lisandro Martinez. Wild, dangerous, completely out of control. The intention was to seriously injure Kamado. He shouldn’t get away with a red card just because he misses.
Another fan said: “What the hell was that Lisandro Martinez???? And how the hell is that not a red card? Two feet, straight at the player, it’s a dangerous game.”
