‘Hopefully changes are made’ :Tony Cascarino thinks £25m Crystal Palace player is not enjoying himself under Oliver Glasner

It has been a difficult start to the 2024/25 campaign for Crystal Palace.

   Oliver Glasner has overseen our worst start to a Premier League season in seven years, with the Eagles yet to taste victory after five league defeats.

   Some of the new signings are also struggling, with Maxence Lacroix yet to replicate the impressive performances of Joachim Andersen, while Daichi Kamada has also failed to adapt to English football so far.

   Eddie Nketiah and Ismaila Sarr at least look sharp, although the latter has yet to start, while Arsenal’s £25m signing is oddly deployed on the right.

   Now Tony Cascarino has shared his thoughts on how Oliver Glasner uses Crystal Palace’s No.  9 at Selhurst Park…

   What Tony Cascarino said about Eddie Nketiah

   The Orpington man has now penned a column about Nketiah in The Times – suggesting the England international will not be relishing his new position.

   Cascarino said: “Do Palace think they have found a replacement for Jordan Ayew, the highly flexible striker who joined Leicester City in the summer? Unlike Ayew, Nketiah needs to be deployed centrally and Palace need to find a way to get the most out of Always  I was a fan of his. He has quick feet and innate sharpness, but he won’t enjoy his last role.”

   “Nketiah has to play with a centre-forward who occupies the defenders. Jean-Philippe Mateta is not that style of striker. Palace paid quite a lot of money for Nketiah, so they clearly see that they need a striker and maybe they are just easing him in, but not at centre-forwards  you can allow a barren run.

   “Yes, Nketiah scored in the Carabao Cup against Queens Park Rangers, but he doesn’t want to be substituted in games when the team needs goals, as was the case against United. It eats away at strikers’ minds if they don’t justify their  fee.”

   We really have no idea why Nketiah is playing on the right and it needs to stop.

   Even when Sarr featured against Manchester United, the Senegalese international played as a striker while Nketiah remained on the right, leaving many scratching their heads as the two often operated in opposite areas.

   It would work if the Arsenal academy graduate was left-handed, but now there is a significant lack of balance in attack and adjustments are needed.

   Danny Murphy also questioned Glasner’s use of Nketiah in the front line on Match of the Day.

   Let’s hope that changes.
