‘I don’t understand’ :Abdoulaye Doucoure react to what was said about ‘Top’ Everton star

Abdoulaye Doucoure has admitted Everton striker Iliman Ndiaye is a “top player” but believes the two are “so different” despite recent comparisons.

   Ndiaye was one of Everton’s many signings in the summer window and has made a strong impression since arriving at Goodison Park.

   The Senegalese international has scored twice in all competitions while being used out wide and in attacking midfield.

   Speaking about Ndiaye’s impact on the team, Doucoure admitted he doesn’t understand why they are being compared as if they play the same role.

   “Iliman is a top player. He can play on the left, he plays 10,” he told the Liverpool ECHO (September 23).

   “Some people try to compare us, but we are so different, so I don’t understand why people try to make this competition between me and him.

   “I want to continue playing with him. He is a top player and he will give us a lot this season.

   “He’s very skilful, he can hold the ball and score. Jesper (Lindström) also played very well, so it’s good competition and he’ll give us more chances.”

   Everton need to build around Iliman Ndiaye

   Of all Everton’s summer transfers, Ndiaye’s arrival is arguably their strongest deal of the period.

   The former Sheffield United player has joined Sean Dyche’s men for a fee of around £16.9m [Fabrizio Romano, June 26], which seems a very modest sum for a player of his stature.

   While the Merseyside side haven’t had the best of seasons in the Premier League, the Senegalese international has been a shining light for Dyche, helping to provide options both in midfield and out wide.

   The attacking midfielder has been the perfect link to the midfield and attack when called upon, and it seems the club would be much worse off without him in their ranks.

   Despite Ndiaye’s contribution, the club are stuck in 19th place in the Premier League, which has piled up the pressure on Dyche in recent weeks [HITC, September 21].

   Everton must find a way to turn their fortunes around or they could be dragged into another relegation battle in the Premier League.
