‘Oh dear’ :Richard Keys thinks Nottingham Forest player should have seen a straight red card in 2-2 draw vs Brighton

Nottingham Forest and Brighton played an entertaining draw (2:2) on Sunday.

   An early penalty from Chris Wood gave Garibaldi a 1-0 lead before two goals in three minutes from Jack Hinshelwood and Danny Welbeck sent Brighton into the break with a 2-1 lead.

   Ramon Sosa then equalized with his first goal for Nottingham Forest, although Richard Keys believes one of Nuno Espirito Santo’s men should have seen a straight red card shortly after the 70th minute…

   What Richard Keys wrote about Morgan Gibbs-White

   Strangely, the 67-year-old wrote on his blog that Morgan Gibbs-White would likely have received a straight red card for a challenge on Joao Pedro in the 83rd minute.

   Keys wrote: “Oh dear Rob Jones. What were you thinking? Let’s set the sequence of events that led to the three red cards at Brighton.

   “Gibbs-White’s challenge on Pedro was poor and should have been cautioned. In fact, there is an instance where he should have seen red. It was an identical challenge on Preston’s Sam Greenwood that saw him sent off in their match against Blackburn.”

   Nonsense.

   Jones made an unusual hand gesture immediately after the challenge to show he thought Gibbs-White had won the ball as he tried to calm down the complaining Brighton players, before brandishing a yellow card just seconds later, apparently due to the influence of his  assistant Anthony Taylor.

   We can’t understand how an official can make it abundantly clear to the world that he believes a player has won the ball, only to be sent off moments later, and it makes the 37-year-old look pretty pathetic, really.

   Nottingham Forest can’t even complain

   Unfortunately for Nunn, he will have to be without his number 10 away to Fulham at the City Ground on Saturday as Nottingham Forest cannot appeal against his suspension following two yellow cards.

   On Ref Watch, Stephen Warnock added that he believes the rule should be changed as there are often questionable dismissals for two bookings.

   Only straight red cards can be overturned, so Gibbs-White will unfortunately have to serve out his one-match ban, despite the questionable nature of how it was handed down.
