After a torrid season so far, which has seen Everton finish 19th in the Premier League table, their fans may finally have some good news to celebrate.

   In fact, the Toffees are believed to be close to getting new owners at the club, following months of ill-fated protests against their current majority owner Farhad Moshiri.

   The BBC, along with other major news outlets in England, recently reported that The Friedkin Group had reached an agreement to buy Farhad Moshiri’s 94% majority stake in Everton for a whopping £400m.

   It’s a deal that will see Everton make a big change, which could even include a new manager.

   Everton are targeting the former England coach

   The Toffees’ new owners could replace current boss Sean Dyche with recently departed England manager Gareth Southgate, according to reports.

   After falling at the final European Championship hurdle for the second time in a row, the former Three Lions boss has parted ways with the FA and is yet to take up a new role.

   Southgate’s only club stint to date was with Middlesbrough between June 2006 and October 2009, but according to GIVEMESPORT, new Toffees owner Friedkin “has spoken of Southgate as an ambitious option for Dyche’s eventual successor” at Goodison Park.

   Firing the former Burnley boss appears to be an easy decision for the Toffees’ potential new owners.    They end up in 19th place with just one point in the table and the most goals conceded in the first division, 14.

   Why Southgate would be a good appointment

   The former England manager is someone who has divided opinion during his time in charge of the Three Lions.    Whatever you think of Southgate, who has been described by journalist Mark Douglas as “phenomenal”, there is no doubt that his more pragmatic approach could be what the Toffees could do with at the moment.

   He is an excellent defensive coach, something even opponents have pointed out in the past, most recently as Cody Gakpo ahead of the Euro 2024 semi-finals.

   The Dutch winger said Southgate’s England have “a lot of quality but they play defensively”.    With the Merseyside side so leaky at the back, a defensive strategy could be just what they need.    This earned him a string of results with England, including two European Championship finals in 2020 and 2024 and a World Cup semi-final in 2018.

   His overall record as England manager also reflects this approach.    In 102 games for the 1966 World Cup winner, the former Middlesbrough manager conceded just 82 goals, a stunning record.

   However, if the 54-year-old were to take over at Goodison Park, he would not just embrace defensive and pragmatic football.    His side is known to create dangerous play patterns that produce results.

   Above all, what the former England coach was known for during his time in the national team was the superb atmosphere.

   He is a great motivator and has created a positive environment where players feel comfortable and want to play for their country.    Guardian journalist Jonathan Wilson suggested during Euro 2024 that Southgate “may be better at the managerial side of football management than football”.

   This kind of environment could work in Everton’s favor and bring the best out of their star players like Dominic Calvert-Lewin.    The Everton centre-forward has already thrived under the 54-year-old for the Three Lions.    He has 11 appearances and four goals behind him and was a member of the national team at Euro 2020.

   If Southgate can fire the England striker in the short term, imagine what he can do over the longer term at Goodison Park.    He seems like he has untapped potential at the Toffees, with a great skill set but just 70 goals in 252 games;    The 54-year-old managed to get him and his teammates to play to the best of their abilities in an optimal environment.

   This appointment could represent a stroke of genius on the part of Freidkin, and the Toffees could keep their hopes of survival alive by appointing the former England manager;    pragmatic results maker and genius motivator.
