🚨EXCLUSIVE :Two former Wolves transfer targets are now shining under Nuno Espirito Santo at Nottingham Forest

Wolves are currently in the midst of a defensive crisis, while their Premier League rivals have two former Molineux transfer targets.

   Yerson Mosquera has suffered an MCL and ACL injury and is likely to be out for the rest of the season, the club confirmed on Tuesday.

   Wolves currently have just three senior centre-backs available for call-up until January.

   After five Premier League games, Wolves have conceded the most goals in the division overall with 14 and the backline has arguably been the team’s weakest aspect, despite Mosquera looking impressive at times.

   In second place in the Premier League, Nottingham Forest are eighth and are yet to lose.

   Nuna Espirito Santo’s side have performed above expectations so far and part of the reason for that is that they have been strong at the back.

   Wolves have been linked with Murillo and Milenkovic, who are now thriving at Nottingham Forest

   After five games so far, Forest have conceded just four goals.

   This gives them the joint third best defensive record in the league, with only two teams conceding fewer goals – Liverpool and Arsenal.

   One of the reasons why Forest have started well is that the form of their two centre-backs has been very good.

   Brazilian Murillo has played every minute so far, and Nikola Milenković, who came to the club last summer from Fiorentina, has played every minute in the last four games.

   Murillo was a player that Wolves were heavily interested in in the summer of 2023, just before his move to Forest.

   Wanderers wanted to sign him from Corinthians and even saw a bid worth around £10m rejected.

   According to the Nottingham Post, he is now being “recognised by Europe’s top clubs” and is in line for a potential Brazil call-up.

   Wolves may have also got their new partner in the middle of the defender Milenkovic.    According to Sky Sports, the club were interested in him a few years ago, but the move never materialized.    Forest bought him in the summer for just £12m.

   After the sale of Max Kilman and Pedro Neto, Wolves would certainly be in for a treat.

   A disappointment for Wolves amid their current struggles

   It’s a little frustrating to see two players that Wolves could and probably should have signed both now excelling at Forest under Nuno.

   Murillo was a highly regarded player in Brazil, but Wolves were ultimately unable to sign him.    Maybe the budget just couldn’t be increased when there were financial constraints.

   Milenkovic is a player that Wolves have known for years.    It always looked like he could be a good fit for the Premier League because of his size and aggression.

   The wolves may have moved in for him in the last window.    There was a clear need to sell Kilman, but ultimately there was no mention of him being a target.

   He now shines in Forest’s backline and has a huge impact alongside Murillo.    Nuno has already described him as “quality”, but it is surprising that Fiorentina sold him for so little.

   Together, they helped Forest climb to eighth place and who knows how much one or both of them could have helped Wolves if the club had perhaps pushed for them a bit more.
