🚨Revealed: Leeds announce major upgrades coming to Elland Road

Changes are coming to Elland Road.    Leeds United announced on Monday that they will increase the stadium’s capacity as part of their upgrade plans.

   Elland Road has been the home of Leeds United since 1919 and was bought by Greenfield Investment Pte Ltd in 2004.  At the time, Greenfield was under the same parent company as The Whites.

   On 27 March 2024, the ownership of Elland Road Limited was transferred to Leeds United Football Club Limited.    The move means the club is now back in full control of the Elland Road stadium for the first time since 2004.

   Leeds’ new majority owner, 49ers Enterprise, is well equipped for stadium projects, having successfully opened Levi’s Stadium for its NFL team, the San Francisco 49ers.

   What are the plans for the new hall?

   Leeds have outlined their plans for Elland Road now that the stadium is under their control.    Here’s what the club announced on Monday as part of their plans:

   They plan to modernize the stadium and increase its capacity from 37,645 to around 53,000 seats.

   The general admission venues will be significantly increased, making Elland Road the seventh largest club venue in the country.

   A key focus of the architectural design will be to preserve and enhance the unique atmosphere that fans value.

   Construction will be phased to minimize the loss of seats during the project.

   The aim is to upgrade Elland Road to UEFA Category 4 status and place it among Europe’s elite stadiums.

   An expert team was assembled, combining experience of global stadiums and local expertise to create artist impressions and prepare a design proposal.

   Paraag Marathe, chairman of Leeds United Football Club and chairman of 49ers Enterprises, expressed his enthusiasm for the future of the Whites and the stadium, which will be among the best in England.

   “We recognize how important Elland Road is to Leeds United fans and the wider community,” Marathe said in a statement.    “The opportunity to refresh a century-old stadium, alongside Leeds United’s heritage, is unprecedented.

   “Our plans reinforce our commitment to the long-term success of the club and I am delighted that we will be able to welcome thousands of new fans to every game, at a venue that retains the unique atmosphere of Elland Road. We look forward to sharing our plans with supporters and the local community for their  contribution.”
