‘Be Careful’ :Neville Southall sends warning to Sean Dyche after what he said about Everton fans

Neville Southall has told Sean Dyche to be careful after what he has said about the Everton fan base in recent weeks.

   Speaking to the Liverpool Echo (September 25), Southall said that while he admires Dyche for the work he has done at the club, his comments about the fans leave a lot to be desired.

   Dyche said seeing the empty seats at Goodison Park was “reality” after the 3-0 defeat to Brighton on the opening day [EFC Daily, August 17], but Southall couldn’t agree more with his verdict.

   He said: “It’s really difficult – I feel sorry for Sean Dyche, I think he’s trying to build a house on quicksand and he never knows what he can plan, he never knows what the future holds.

   “I think he has to be careful what he says about the fans.

   “There are no better people in the world than our fans. If this football club was anywhere else in the world, we would have 10,000 people at the matches, but we have full halls because we have great fans.”

   Everton fans are running out of patience with Sean Dyche

   While Dyche’s post-match comments on the opening day may have upset the Goodison faithful, his side’s poor start to the season is sure to do far more damage to his reputation on Merseyside.

   The Toffees are winless in the Premier League so far and have just one point from five games, with Dyche under increasing pressure to turn around this “terrible” run of form [Tony Scott, September 18].

   With a Dan Friedkin takeover looming large in the background, Dyche’s position at the ground will come under further scrutiny as the prospective owner looks to turn his fortunes around [GiveMeSport, September 24].

   Dyche himself is only under contract for the next few months, with his contract running until the summer of 2025, and there is already a consensus that he faces an uphill battle to secure an extension at Goodison.

   How long fans stay in their seats between games should be the least of Dyche’s worries at the moment, because if he fails to get the Toffees to victory again, he could soon be booted off the bench.
